Dentist Dumps Syringes - Contaminates Jersey Shore

Can you believe it? A prominent dentist with homes in Pennsylvania and the Jersey Shore has been accused of "unlawfully discharging a pollutant and unlawful disposal of regulated medical waste." Lets say it in plain English...he dumped a bag of 300 used needles, 180 used cotton swabs and other materials from his medical office. He admitted to tossing the material from his boat a few miles offshore and, Surprise! The debris washed up on shore, closing down the beaches of Avalon, a resort town about 25 miles South of Atlantic City, throughout the Labor Day weekend.

I just don't get it. We have had years of "Earth First", "Earth Day", "Save the Earth", "Save the Ocean" and you would have to be in a coma not to know that dumping is illegal and immoral.

Thomas McFarland needs more than a fine for this ignorant and willful offense. He should get jail time and be forced to watch Jacque Cousteau documentaries and "Finding Nemo" over and over until he cries.

!!!

I just don't understand what could have been going through his head. Surely he has appropriate ways of getting rid of waste in his practice? Or is this really what he's been doing with it all these years? A terrifying thought.

Oh, he knows what he did was wrong. He did it anyway. Jackass.

I suppose the question then becomes, why did he do that instead of regular biohazard disposal methods? Were they from clandestine root canals? Does he have a drug habit and those are not necessarily dentistry-related needles? Mwuahahahahahahahahaha

I'm sure he has to pay a bio-hazard waste disposal service. Probably spent that money on the boat.

Still it was pretty stupid not to have encased the waste in plaster or cement before dumping.

Of course, dumping anything illegally is stupid and reprehensible.

I was baffled when I read that story. I can't believe it was just to save money. How much do you pay per month to dispose of your medical waste?

Our cost is buried in our rent and maintenance because my building is owned by a hospital, but I know it is an extra cost. Yes...it always does boil down to money, doesn't it? It reminds me of the beloved pediatrician who diluted children's vaccines to save money. Shocking but true.

Maybe he was high on nitrous.
