Women's Self-Esteem


Stop with the retouched, perfect photos! This is why young girls develop self-esteem issues.
(Can we all agree that the unretouched was just fine the way she was?)

OMG the lack of lumbar lordosis in the left picture is just nauseating to me. Thankfully they corrected it in the right pic to protect our eyes.

Yes, it was fine without Photochop.

My daughter recently said that she didn't like her new winter coat because it "makes [her] look fat." She is 7. Her mom is very determined not to raise her with body image issues, so Mom doesn't talk about being fat or thin. But I do. I joke about being fat a lot. Maybe she learned from me. =(

Cary: I talk about being fat constantly. Just can't help myself, but hey, I'm a woman and I do read fashion magazines. It is pervasive and we need to consciously not mention weight or bodies to our daughters (unless it relates to health and exercise).

Personally I like the left but that's b/c I see it in a diff. light than the general public. My family always showed me the tricks of the trade behind films, tv, and fashion. (One is a nurse and the other a teacher) So I knew from the beginning what I was seeing was a work of art and not an exact image of a real person. That kept me well rounded in the since of not to depict tinsel town of any type of real worth in real life. Now I can tell you that b/c of that I do now work in TV/film/photography/fashion ie model for fun... haha... mostly b/c I respected it as art and I'm naturally an artist of every kind. :D The KEY is educate. As a parent it is your job to educate them and guide them all the time. Every moment with them is an opertunity. Make it fun.
Also you need to educate on what is health such as eating right fruits, veggies, protein, dairy... you know the food groups and in a healthy Moderation with daily exercise is the right way to go. That might be hard for some to be an example with in the since of the general public is now NOT healthy with major health prob. that relate to the lifestyles they lead. But Health Does start with the parents. If you are not an example then the freak show of hollywood will be.
